Tough Judge on Gun Crime

The Lord Chief Justice has warned offenders who commit gun crime that they face “deterrent and punitive” sentences to protect the public.

Lord Judge, sitting at the Court of Appeal in London, said that the “gravity of gun crime cannot be exaggerated”.

Issuing new sentencing guidelines, the Court of Appeal said: “Deterrent and punitive sentences are required and should be imposed.”

One “dangerous predatory paedophile” had a sentence of indefinite detention for public protection increased to life imprisonment.
